“Top Gun: Maverick” Far Outflies Its Predecessor

The original is less good than you remember, but Joseph Kosinski’s beautifully shot sequel, with Tom Cruise as the Dorian Gray of the U.S. Navy, manages to make absurd triumphalism disarmingly puppyish.
