Decision to cast Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton as Joseph Merrick in BBC adaptation criticised

The disability charity Scope has criticised the decision to cast an able-bodied actor as Joseph Merrick in the forthcoming BBC adaptation of The Elephant Man.

Charlie Heaton, who stars in the Netflix series Stranger Things, will play the severely disfigured 19th-century man in the programme, due to be screened next year.
